I can respectfully appreciate this post as it shows enthusiasm to those non-Virgin Islanders who fell in love with the concept of living in Paradise and are taking the steps to make that dream a reality.
I struggle to understand why there aren’t programs or resources that exist, that are designed to bring qualified and enthusiastic Virgin Islanders back home to live and work – to be able to contribute progressively to their home town in ways that they were unable to do as children. It has proved to be very discouraging that so many road blocks are in place that prevents a mass exodus of talented Virgin Islanders back to their home town. Where is the incentive (outside of an individual’s personal desire for an improved quality of life), for people like myself? Not only do I bring over 15 years of experience in my industry (and I am extremely good at what I do!), but I also understand the unique social and cultural characteristics of the Virgin Islands that most tourists who love these islands so much they want to move here, are never adequately prepared to handle until they are in the trenches and wonder if their decision was truly well-thought out?? Which one of us is going to stick it out, and make the most positive long term impact on the work and social culture of the Virgin Islands? Them or me? Just a thought…
I am still actively looking to relocate from NYC to St. Croix, and any resource (whether it be career.vi, indeed.com, monster.com, or my mom’s yoga friend who knows someone who knows someone) is a good resource!
